Your living environment can majorly impact your physical and mental health, but most people do not realize how much their living space impacts their everyday well-being. For example, an unhealthy home can contribute to asthma, depression, and more.
In contrast, healthy home can improve your sleep quality, reduce stress levels, and allow you to save money on medical bills and therapy sessions. Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating a healthy living environment in your home!
Keep Your Home Clean
Having a healthy living environment starts with keeping your home clean. Keeping your house spotless will not only make it inviting to visitors, but it will also make you feel better!
There are many cleaning hacks that you can use to save time and money when deep cleaning your house. Spend 10 minutes picking up clutter in every room; this removes little barriers to efficiency, making your entire home cleaner in less time than before.
Get a Fresh Air System Installed
Maintaining a healthy living environment is often easier said than done when you live in a dense metropolitan area. Getting fresh air can be more challenging for those who suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory ailments because the air inside is often cleaner and fresher than outside. Installing an Energy Star-rated whole-house ventilation system will allow your family to enjoy clean, fresh indoor air while letting outside pollutants find their way out.
Keep Pests Out
The key is pest prevention for homeowners who want to ensure a safe, healthy environment for their families.
Check your home at least once a month for sources of insect harborage: holes in wood and drywall, under floorboards, loose window sills, and crevices where pipes enter walls—place screens on windows and doors to block out any insects flying inside. – Clean up food sources outside or bring them indoors after meals.
Control Room Temperature and Humidity
There are a few important ways to monitor the environment in your home. The first is temperature and humidity. Generally, the temperature should be 68 degrees, and the humidity should be 40%. Additionally, it’s important to ensure you have the appropriate ventilation for your climate and clean heating systems and filters.
Invest in Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is popular because it comes in many different finishes, patterns, and textures. You will also find many blocks of wood to choose from, including beechwood, birchwood, cherrywood, mahogany wood, and oak wood.
This flooring will last a long time and, if properly maintained, can last for a lifetime. In addition, these floors can offer a variety of features, such as a waterproof finish to combat any spills or harmful foot traffic which could ruin your hardwood floor.
Hang Plants Around the House
Putting plants around your house is an easy way to keep them alive and wonders for a room’s ambiance. Filling your home with plants makes it feel like nature is right at your fingertips and gives you another reason to spend time outside. The air in your home will be fresher, especially if you live in a climate where pollen or other allergens are prolific.
Breathe Easy
Living in a hectic environment can put a lot of stress on our bodies and mind. That is why it is important to take the time to design a space that lets you breathe easier. Not only will your quality of life improve, but so will your health.
Choose appliances and materials that promote clean air, such as CFL bulbs, PUR water filters, filterless cooktops, and more!
Use Natural Cleaners on Counters, Tubs, and Sinks
Another cost-effective way to make your home smell good is using essential oils. These oils are highly volatile organic compounds that give off a pleasant scent. Lavender, for example, helps to balance moods and induce relaxation.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals in Personal Care Products like Toothpaste and Mouthwash.
Choose toothpaste and mouthwash with a lower percentage of Sodium Fluoride, Fluoride, and SLS. Your teeth can lose tooth enamel when exposed to these chemicals over time.
Avoid any product with triclosan in the ingredients. Canada bans this ingredient because it’s considered harmful to the environment, but still allowed in America.
Shop at places that recycle boxes and use environmentally friendly packaging whenever possible.
Consume products like soy milk instead of dairy milk if you have an allergy or intolerance to dairy products.
Buy fruits and vegetables from local farmers’ markets or grocery stores if you live near them. You’ll be supporting local agriculture while getting fresher produce.

Final thought
Living in an unhealthy environment can contribute to serious health problems, whether it’s the air quality, noise level, or sunlight available daily. But there are also plenty of other things you can do to improve your living space so that you can live more comfortably and be more productive while at home or work.
