Today it seems like you can’t mention a common cold without someone tellingyou which essential oil you should use to treat it. There are tons of essential oils available on the market today. It seems like there are just as many pieces of advice on how to use the essential oils as there are essential oils.
As with any new alternative medicine and complementary therapy, there is much debate whether or not ingestion of essential oils is safe and can improve your wellness. Some advocate for the use of small amounts of essential oils while others say that ingestion of essential oils should never happen.

Poison Control says that many essential oils are used and commonly ingested. They have listed several types of mint and other oils that people used to treat various ailments. You should know that essential oils are not regulated like foods and therefore the true source is never known 100 percent of the time.
Aside from ingesting essential oils, there are other ways you can use essential oils. Many people use them in diffusers as a part of aromatherapy while others use them in ointments and salves. Here are some unique ways that essential oils can help improve your overall wellness.

Lavender
Essential oils derived from the lavender plant have made their way into many essential oil concoctions. Lavender oil has a soothing quality, and it is in many calming essential oil formulas. Lavender oil can help reduce stress and help you fall asleep. Applying a diluted form of the oil (one where the essential oil mixes with a carrier oil, like coconut oil) to clothing or a bath can help you find the rest and relaxation you are looking for.  Pro Tip: Use lavender when doing Yoga, Tai Chi, or during meditation to help you relax and find your center.

Chamomile
Another calming essential oil, chamomile is in many calming products. Chamomile is commonly seen in many sleep-inducing teas. You can use this in a diffusor or as part of an essential oil rub. Remember all essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil before being applied in a bath or on the skin.
Pro Tip: Chamomile is best used during times of life when sleep isn’t easy to come by. Many people find that chamomile makes them very sleepy, so be careful not to use this oil if you will be driving or need to concentrate.

Tea Tree Oil
This tingling oil is commonly found in natural skin treatment products. Professional products like dandruff shampoos and athletes foot treatments routinely use tea tree oil for their active ingredient. The oil has antifungal and antibiotic properties that make it effective when treating many skin conditions.
Pro Tip: Many professional products are already using Tea Tree Oil to help with dandruff and skin conditions like acne. Ask your pharmacist for products containing Tea Tree oil when looking for over-the-counter shampoos and medications.

Eucalyptus
This extract helps relieve a host of respiratory issues. Eucalyptus oil diffused into the air will deliver the full benefit of the vapors to the respiratory system, sinuses, and body. Eucalyptus can also come in a tea to help the body fight common allergies. Pro Tip: Diffusing eucalyptus during allergy season and cold and flu season can help fight off the respiratory symptoms associated with these times of year. Give your immune system a boost when it most needs one by using Eucalyptus oil.

There are many other essential oils that are in every day products that help you improve your overall wellness. Whether you are looking to improve your general well-being or a specific condition; there is an essential oil that can help you.

Some oils are better when diffused while others are more effective when applied in balms and salves. You don’t have to make your own as many professional products already contain essential oils that will help you improve your wellness.

All the best
