Morning, everyone. I have been on the road cooking at shelters to get more experience in structure and giving back; needed a change. Up in Buffalo, NY for my children’s great grand mother passing at age 104. Worked with Glen from the Buffalo Mission. He makes the impossible happen creating meals for 100 to 200 souls, three times a day with almost nothing. Most of the food is rescued from restaurants, hotels, and hospitals — plus donations. They are a mission providing shelter and security for men, women, and children. Difference is, they make the people work toward their own change in a program committed to changing their lives.

Met 2 men afterward… One was a mechanic with a home and a job making $23.00 per hour for a fire engine building company that closed in Buffalo and could not find work afterward. Got depressed with the bottle, lost his home, family, and was on the street.  Been one week clean. Second man was a pain medication popper, busted buying someone’s prescription meds. Went to jail for 6 months– white collar job, all gone. When he got out, his family was gone and all his property, too. He has been clean for 6 months.

I prayed with those two men that they stay clean and that if they fall off the trail that God kicks their asses back on the right trail. Change happens when you give up the BS and it’s build back through relationships that makes us stronger.

I cook at shelters to give back to the people that helped me as a child living in shelters for abused women in the early 70’s. Plus ying/yang for the things that I’ve done in my life.
