The Paleo diet is perhaps one of the healthiest diets you can adopt. Originating during 228629the Paleolithic era, which takes place 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago, this diet offers a nutritional approach that complements your genetics and helps you stay fit, lean and energetic. Science demonstrates that modern diets contain excess fats and sugars. Refined foods rank as some of the major contributors to diseases and illnesses including but not limited to diabetes, obesity, depression, infertility, cancer and heart conditions.

The Paleo diet embraces the many of the characteristics of old. Some even refer to it as the “caveman’s diet.” It promotes consumption of unprocessed foods such as vegetables, fish, oils from fruits and nuts, lean meats, seeds, and nuts. What’s not on the list of acceptable foods? Processed foods, dairy, salt, potatoes, grains –including wheat, barley, and oats (Mayoclinic.org).
The Paleo diet supports the theory that the human body is not able to fully support today’s way of eating. Instead, it thrives under conditions that the Paleo diet creates leading to weight loss and healthy dietary practices. The Paleo diet has legions of supporters who give testimony of its positive effect on their mental and physical well-being. However, there are others who remain skeptical about the benefits this diet can deliver. Instead, they argue that the Paleo diet is harmful. Several scientific case studies address these concerns.
Scientific Case Studies about the Paleo Diet
Two experimental studies demonstrate that the Paleo diet can provide benefits to its followers.  In 2008, Osterdahl M et al. conducted a short-term study to show the effect of a Paleo diet on healthy volunteers. Approximately 14 medical students followed a Paleo diet for three weeks. At the end of those three weeks, results showed a weight loss reduction by 5 lbs, a body mass index reduction by 0.8 and a systolic blood pressure reduction by three mm Hg in the volunteers (Effects of Short-Term Intervention with Paleolithic Diet in Health Volunteers).
In 2009, Johnson T et al. facilitated a study to show the benefits of a Paleo diet on type 2 diabetes. 13 people with type 2 diabetes were divided into two groups. Some were placed on a Paleo diet while others were placed on a regular diabetes diet for three months.
At the conclusion of those three months, the participants who consumed a Paleo diet lost 6.6 lbs of weight and 1.6 inches of their waistline when compared to the others on a diabetes diet. The people on the Paleo diet saw a reduction in their blood sugar by as much as 0.4%, and their triglycerides decreased by 35mg. Paleo diets focus on unprocessed food which means foods with no chemicals, preservatives or additives. Usually, these chemicals are causes of health issues, mainly when consumed often. With a Paleo diet, you can be sure not to get any of these issues.
