5 Ways to Being Healthier
By Chef K.T. Murphy
We all want better health and wellness but often times we don’t live as healthy as we should be living. The problem may be that we developed bad habits and now we have to undo them but no one is perfect and we all need improvement. Health is often taken for granted but don’t ever find yourself in the same situation because your wellness is your life.
Here are 5 ways to be healthier:
1. Get On a Regular Sleep Schedule
Getting plenty of quality sleep is probably the most important thing we can do for ourselves health wise. It’s more times than not the number one in healing any sickness or ailments and without proper sleep we will not function properly. Get quality sleep by going to be at a decent time and avoid oversleeping. Quality is always better than quantity so shoot for 7-8 hours every night at the same time. Your health improvements will be noticeable.
2. Eat Better
The saying “you are what you eat” never goes out of style. Processed foods will only cause health problems if consumed regularly and in large quantities. You’re putting your body into an acidic state by consuming lifeless, processed junk foods. Focus on greens, grains, fruits, nuts and healthy Earth grown foods for optimal health.
Here are some fantastic options:
• Leafy greens (Kale, Spinach, Chards, and Broccoli)
• Avocados
• Fruits (Berries, Apples, Bananas)
• Nuts
• Healthy Oils (Coconut/Olive)
• 100% Grass-Fed Meats
• Tofu/Tempeh
• Beans/Legumes
*These should be the main foods consumed for optimal health.
3. Develop Your Mental Strength
Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Never neglect the fact that your mind may be suffering but if you don’t correct it right away, you might develop some serious problems. Many people struggle mentally because they don’t have the knowledge and/or tools to fix it. It’s your duty to make sure you are developing mental strength in order to ward off what life seems to throw at us.
Here are some great ways to develop mental strength:
• Practice meditation and deep breathing.
• Talk to a therapist.
• Physically exert yourself by exercise and pushing beyond your comfort zone.
• Interact and find good people to socialize with.
Many things can cause the mind to function improperly but you must make an effort to reverse this. By focusing on inner-awareness and mindfulness, you’ll develop a mind that’s prepared for life’s challenges. Get out and push yourself physically but also make sure your communication with yourself and others is a work in progress at all times.
4. Exercise Daily
Since we have all these medications at our disposal, often times just taking a pill is the preferred solution fixing everything. However, the money-making side of the pharmaceutical industry usually convinces us that medication is the answer when some activity is all we needed.
• Walk at a decent pace for at least 45 minutes a day.
• Hit the gym and train with resistance!
• Do an activity in which you enjoy which also gets your heart rate up.
Exercise is extremely important for preventing chronic disease, heart health and overall better health.
5. Live with Less Stress
We can never likely get rid of all the stress in our lives because that would be a bad thing. Stress is necessary to grow mentally and physically but sometimes too much stress is not good. We need to learn to manage how we react to stressful situations in order to prevent the problems associated with physical stress. Too much bad stress can beat down on us and cause our bodies to function improperly.
So to manage stress…
• Consider the above four bullets to remaining in good health.
• Get rid of the unnecessary (BS) factors in your life.
• Do what makes you find fulfillment.
It’s really that simple, so decide to live healthier today!
